Diamond Consulting Services Ltd. www.idris-technology.co.uk have won The Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation 2008. Diamond Consulting Services are based in Dinton, in the Vale of Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. An Aylesbury based company, specialising in high-tech vehicle information systems, has been presented with the prestigious Queen's Award for Enterprise – Innovation 2008. And, as Transport Secretary Ruth Kelly publishes plans to tackle congestion on our busiest motorways, this small R&D company in the south of England is being hailed for its own technology within this field for a second time.
Diamond Consulting Services (DCS), a family owned and run company with an international reputation for innovative vehicle detection and classification systems, has been chosen for the Award from a long list of prospective recipients. The Queen's Award, with worldwide acclaim, acknowledges DCS for its continued innovation and outstanding contribution to the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) industry. As a research and development company, DCS has developed Idris into a product range which offers road operators functionality, accuracy and flexibility for the improvement of todays transportation corridors. The teams dedication to evolving the technology to help improve our roads through safer incident and vehicle detection applications demonstrates why they so richly deserve the Queen's Award.
''We are very proud to have been presented with the award,'' said Bob Lees who, along with his bother Andy, a fellow systems engineer, invented the Idris algorithms, ''It represents the fruit of over 12 years of hard work in bringing British technology to the rest of the world''. ''This award'', said Andy, ''recognises the development and use of advanced British technology in vehicle detection and classification throughout the world, including vehicle priority systems and vehicle incident detection applications".
